Does using the meta geo tag help a website in anyway? Well the answer to that question is no, google has moved on from the time where it used to use meta geo tags to display your website in the right search results for each country.

What some people tend to do is tell google in the web masters tool section which country there content is based primarily for as the information in the webmaters tool section is valuable and used when assigned you your rank.

If you do have a French website and have content for both google.fr and google.com then you can buy both TLD’s for your domain so for example example.com and example.fr and permanently redirect the domains.
